About the Summer Job

We are looking for a student in software development or computer engineering to join our R&D team in Gothenburg for a summer position lasting 8–12 weeks.

Our R&D department develops and maintains Consilium Marine & Safety products and services for fire and gas protection systems used in safety-critical environments.

During the summer, you will work with verification and automated testing of our Fire & Gas systems, helping ensure that the systems behave according to their specifications and documentation.

Depending on your background, experience, and interests, we have a few suggested areas you can work with during the summer. The scope of the assignment can therefore be adapted to match your skills while giving you hands-on experience in our R&D environment.

What You Will Work With

System Verification

Part of the work involves verifying system behavior from a user perspective. This means ensuring that the functionality described in documentation matches the actual behavior of the system.

You will review and test:

• System usage according to user manuals

• Installation and maintenance procedures (installation, configuration, and maintenance manuals)

• Technical specifications described in datasheets

You will go through use cases and fault scenarios, testing the system and verifying that it behaves as expected.

The outcome of this work will be a report summarizing findings, including potential deviations and proposals for improvements to the system or documentation.

Test Automation

You will also contribute to developing and extending automated test suites written in Python for our Fire & Gas systems.

We already have an existing test framework and automated tests, and the focus will be on extending test coverage and improving automated verification.

Your work may include:

• Developing and extending Python-based test suites

• Writing software and system-level tests using the pytest framework

• Running tests on a physical hardware test rig

• Triggering and monitoring tests through GitLab Runner

• Setting up hardware and configuring tools connected to the test environment

Technologies & Tools

You will primarily work with Python and automation tools such as Pytest, scp, ping3, paramiko, vncdotool, and junitxml.

Qualifications

We are looking for a motivated and curious student who enjoys programming and working close to hardware systems.

You are likely:

• A student at Chalmers University of Technology or University of Gothenburg

• Studying Software Development, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or a similar field

• Comfortable with Python programming

• Interested in embedded systems, test automation, or system-level development
